I must say - Dangal is a fantabulous movie and the ticket price is just too small for something this big ;). This is the first ever Hindi movie that I am writing about and well I just do not know how to begin with. There were lot of airs about this one just like any other movie when the trailer hit the screens. With speculations ripe - "Is it another Sultan ?", "Is it about women empowerment ?", "Is it about the Indian sports system ?" there was something unique - maybe Aamir Khan :P or the fact that it is a true life incident - that allowed us to brush aside these distractions.
After hearing a lot of positive reviews and the remarkable standing ovation episodes I decided I should never ever miss this one ever. The movie spans across the lives of Geeta and Babita (warrior wrestlers of our current time), their father - Mahavir Singh Phogat (National Level Wrestling champion of yesteryears) and quite a small family entourage. It is mostly based on their real life story with slight modifications to cater to the cinematic experience.
The movie is about how Mahavir Singh, once hailed the mighty pehelwaan lost out on opportunities of making it big in his life thanks to our Sports Ministry. His dreams never died out though. He was determined to win gold for India through his children. What follow next are the trials and tribulations that he and his family had to face in his quest to make his princesses venture a supposed male dominion - wrestling world. Hailing from a state infamous for its high rates of female infanticide their ordeals were not a piece of cake.
Though they are a family of wrestlers they are indeed a family with sentiments and emotions just like the ones that you and I are in. How they win against all these odds that are pitted against them is for you to see on the big screens and be examples of a real family with strength and confidence in each other.
Every artist has done amazingly well in portraying themselves as real life international champs. It is easy to be yourself but twice as much painstaking to be someone else that too to be a reel wrestler. The wonderful ladies in the movie have done an unassumingly mind-blowing job. Hats off to them. Aamir Khan the pro that he is has never failed us even for a single frame.
Not to mention the National Anthem at the end - GOOSEBUMPS. DO EXPERIENCE IT !!
Bottomline - Terrific cast, sheer hardwork and faith in the people who really matter are the keys to a real as well as reel life victorious DANGAL DANGAL ;)
P.S - Please take some tissues with you :P - quite an emotional ride it is. But a worthy experience never to be missed on screens
