Rava
Kichadi is a common breakfast in South India. It is prepared by cooking
Rava/Sooji with Vegetables and flavoured with few spices .It has a great melt
in mouth texture. Kichadi tastes great when served with Coconut chutney and
Sambar. It is one of the popular breakfast in south India. However there may be
slight variation in the kichadi preparation based on different regions be it
the addition of vegetables or spices. Now let’s see how to prepare Rava
Kichadi.
I
have prepared Rava Kichadi for my breakfast last Saturday, so here I am up with
the post!!

Rava/Semolina/Sooji – 1 cup
Water – 3 cups
Onions – 1
Tomato – 1
Green Chilli – 2
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
Lemon Juice – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Curry Leaves 1 spring
Ghee – 1 tbsp
Cinnamon stick – 1 inch piece
Cardamom –
2
Cloves - 2
Method:
1. Roast
the rava till they give a nice aroma and set aside. Chop all the vegetables
and set aside. In a pan add in ghee once it heats up add the Cinnamon stick, Cardamom
and Cloves.
2. Next
add in the onions, Green chilli and curry leaves fry till they become glossy
and then add in the tomato.
3.
Cook till it is done and
then add in ginger garlic paste, fry till the raw smell leaves. Next add in
the water, Salt , Lemon Juice and Turmeric powder.
4.
Close the lid and wait till
the water comes to a boil .Now add in the roasted rava.
5.
Mix well and continue
cooking till the water is fully absorbed by the rava and the kichadi
consistency is reached.
Notes:
·
The Kichadi texture should
not be thick like Rava upma it should be lightly mushy.
·
You can also add vegetables
like beans, carrot and green peas in kichadi.

1.

Kichadi
along with Sambar, Chutney, Medhu Vadai and Filter Coffee makes a prefect breakfast!!
Have never had a rava...it looks like a very satisfying and delicious breakfast.
