Spinach Dal recipe with step by
step photos. Spinach is one of the healthy ingredient and when it combined with
Dal gives more goodness. This is one recipe which I use to make my hubby eat
Spinach. He never eats spinach before marriage and I am really happy that he started
eating now. Spinach along with Steamed Rice and spicy potato fry is one of my
favourite combo. Now lets’ see how to prepare Spinach Dal.

Spinach
/ Keerai – 1 bunch
Toor
Dal – ½ cup
Onion –
1
Tomato –
1
Green
Chilli – 2
Garlic
pods – 5
Tamarind
– 1 amla sized ball
Salt as
needed
Turmeric
powder – ½ tsp
To
Temper :
Oil – 1
tsp
Cumin
Seeds – 1 tsp
Dry Red
Chili – 3
Step by step Method with pictures:
1. Wash the spinach bunch and chop
them into small pieces. In a pressure cooker add the chopped spinach ,green
chilli ,garlic pods along with onion , tomato , Toor Dal and then very little
water.
2. Pressure cook for 4 whistles. Wait
till the pressure get released and then open the cooker.
3. Mash the dal with a ladle and
then extract tamarind water and add it to the mashed dal and spinach .Mix
well and add the required salt.
4. In a pan add in oil to this add
in Cumin seeds and Dry red chilli let them splutter.
5. Now add the Spinach dal mixture
and give a good mix. Finally add Turmeric powder and cook for 5 mins in a low
flame and switch off the stove.
Notes:
· Any Spinach variety can be used
for this Recipe.
· Preferably Amaranth Leaves \
Siru Keerai.
· Instead of adding toor dal
fully you can also add half and half of tour dal and Moong Dal.
· Make sure you add very less
water while cooking the greens.
· Serve with Rice and any spicy
