Arisi Parupu Sadham is one famous delicacy from Kongunadu. It is a comfort food prepared with Rice and Dal as the main ingredients. I happened to taste this dish during my PG days. Few of my roommates were from Coimbatore and whenever they come from native this will definitely be in their box and we had a feast.
They usually pack in mandharai leaves while coming and we used to reheat and enjoy with a dollop of ghee and heaven it was. I did a good thing of noting down the recipe from my friends mom and here it is now. So sharing this yummy recipe today which I enjoyed it a lot.
How to make Arisi Parupu Sadham
2. In a pressure cooker add in the Ghee to this add Mustard Seeds, Cumin seeds let them splutter and then add Hing,Dry Red Chilli, Curry Leaves Sauté and then add in the onions. Mix well and add salt cook till the onions becomes glossy.
3. Next add the tomatoes and cook till they are mashed well .Now add in the Sambar powder and Turmeric powder. Mix well.
4. Next add in the 3 ½ cups of hot water and the soaked rice and dal.Mix well. Check for salt and spice and pressure cook in a medium flame for 3 whistles. Wait till the pressure gets released on its own and then open the cooker. Serve hot with ghee.

Arisi Parupu Sadham
Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice
- ½ cup Toor Dal
- 3.5 cups Water
- 2 tbsp Ghee
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
- ¼ tsp Hing
- 1 sprig Curry Leaves
- 2 Dry Red Chilli
- 2 Onion
- 2 Tomato
- 5 Garlic
- Salt as needed
- ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Sambar Powder
Instructions
- Clean and soak the Rice and Dal in Water. Heat the 3 ½ cups of water to cook the rice and keep it ready.

Notes
· Tastes best when served hot by topping it with ghee.
