Onion Uttapam Recipe | How to make Onion Uttapam | Vengaya Uttapam with step by step pictures. Dosa batter will be always available in any south Indian house hold and the Dosa batter gets transformed to a uthappam on some days instead of the regular dosa.
Ingredients
Idli Dosa Batter - Dosa batter works perfectly for the recipe. Make sure not to spread the uthappam like dosa.
Onion - Use finely chopped onions , they go well as a topping
Coriander leaves - Gives a lovely flavor to the uthappam
Ghee / Oil - Adds flavor and gives a crispy textured uthappam.
How to make Onion Uthappam
1.Keep Dosa Batter ready. Heat dosa tawa. Once its hot , take a ladle full of batter and pour on the pan like a thick dosa. Do not spread much.
Sprinkle finely chopped onions on top of the uthappam. Also sprinkle few finely chopped coriander leaves. Drizzle in oil or ghee over the edges of uthappam.
Flip the uthappam and other side for few secs till it is cooked.
Now the uthappam is ready and serve hot.

Goes well with chutney ,Sambar and Filter coffee.
Goes well as a breakfast or snack
We can alter or show variation to the topping of uthappam as we prefer.
Add green chili if you prefer a spicier version. Even a simple tadka can be added.
Serving Suggestions
Uthappam goes well with Chutney and Sambar. We can also serve them along with Medu Vadai ( Ulundu Vadai) and Filter. Everything together makes a king size breakfast.
Storage Options
I do not recommend storing the uthappam. It becomes soggy and does takes good when its not hot. Uthappam tastes best only when hot. However we can store the batter and make the uthappam as and when needed.

Standard 1 cup measures 240 ml
